"Merry Christmas Baby" (On each side of doorway of Carl's house was Christmas package bows & labels. All labels were too warn to read the who they were from. Carl died in on 11-1-76, I wonder if he was getting ready for Xmas before death came for him.) The Desert Center Cabins were originally built to house tired passengers but ultimately housed Desert Steve & him family. There were 8 total cabins in the beginning, one has burned to the ground. Each of the 7 remaining cabins are full of personal items, some of those items bare the Ragsdale name on them. Some of the kitchens are stocked with food along with stereo systems & TV's in the living room & memorabilia still hanging on the walls. Each cabin is creepy with creaking floors, blind corners & a fear of what lies in the darkness. An itinerant preacher & cotton farmer by the name of Stephen A. Ragsdale aka “Desert Steve” broke down on his way to LA in 1915 in the middle of the desert, when the thought came to him that this area would be the ideal place for a stop as it is 50 miles from any civilization. In 1921 he purchased the land & Desert Center, CA was born. The town had a gas station, cafe, cabins, a school, & other amenities. Desert Center prospered in its early years. In the 1950's Desert Steve was caught in an affair & left Desert Center. His son Stanley bought the property from his Father and expanded it amenities. In the 1980's the area declined as the school & Eagle Mountain Mine closed. Desert Steve died in 1971 & Stanley died in 1999. The town is still lives as the Cafe is still open to travelers. Desert Center School was the 1st place I ever photographed & Urban Explored back in 2006, so this town is very special to me.

"The Bedroom of Carl Moser" It's dark, dry, & discombobulated; his room resembles a desperate shuffle to put things back together again, but time's unmovable hand has reeked havoc on this once peaceful & livable place. His bed is turned over as his belongings gather dust, 1 of his ties still hangs in silence, the same way it did when he hung it up for the last time in 1976.

berinasmajlovic Very cool! I'd love to visit!

valle_della_rovina Much thx @berinasmajlovic It's an awesome place 2 visit. It's a semi-ghosttown @ the moment.

berinasmajlovic @valle_della_rovina that sounds fantastic! The creepier the better!

valle_della_rovina The cabins are super creepy because half of them look like squatters were recently living in them. & some of the rooms are pitch black. @berinasmajlovic

"A Dirty Cabin w/ a Filthy Past" (This cabin was not explored due to the fact that it appeared someone was still living in it or had just abandoned it. From the view in the door, there was a lot of new looking clothes & a sleeping bag. We stayed away because of a really bad feeling we got when walking around it.) The Desert Center Cabins were originally built to house tired passengers but ultimately housed Desert Steve & him family. There were 8 total cabins in the beginning, one has burned to the ground. ethanalloway This one had the cans off to the right side of the entrance correct?

valle_della_rovina Yes it was @ethanalloway It was the last cabin in the back. Did you go into it?

ethanalloway I walked into it, but stopped because the canned beans looked so new. Then I realized that someone must be living in it.

valle_della_rovina I feel you on that @ethanalloway I got the same vibe, I said "hello" a few times & got no response. I wasn't packing, so I didn't chance it.

ethanalloway You don't need to pack in CA... Unless you are doing mines.
