We were actually quite close to Aunt Liz’s - which made me wonder how I had become lost in the first place, although I quickly dismissed the thought - and it took us all of five minutes to walk there. We reached the white house and stopped on the front porch for a minute in silence. Finally, Klaus spoke up, “Goodnight, Bethany.” “Goodnight,” I said softly, heading for the door. Then on a whim I turned back around, glad to see that he was only just turning to leave. “And Klaus?” I called. He turned to face me, “Yes, love?” “You can call me Beth,” I told him. Then, with a grin, I turned and stepped into the house, shutting the door behind me.

When he gave no explanation, I sighed. “You’ll learn my story soon enough,” he promised. “Okay,” I pouted a little. Klaus just laughed at me, and after glaring at him I starting laughing too. “It’s getting late,” Klaus observed, “I should get you home.” “No!” I cried. Klaus gave me a quizzical look and I added, “Don’t go.” This made him look sad again, “I'll have to go sometime, Bethany.” “No,” I pouted stubbornly, “I won’t let you.”
