One of the most interesting things about studios I'm new to are how they decorate. Does the studio speak to the practice only, with patchouli greeting the nostrils and Krishna adorning the walls? Does the studio cater to the student making the studio resemble a gym or spa? Or does the studio grasp a unique feeling that's contained only in the walls of the studio? The last studios must be my favorite. They don't force one direction or the other for each unique practitioner (spiritual or not). In my best experiences, yoga is the art of embracing and accepting the now, the moment, the unique yet familiar. That familiar yet ever-changing thread is God in some people's eyes, prana in others, and physics still in others. A building that fosters your relationship with whatever that creative life force is should hold unique expressions like the one pictures above, encouraging the student to break convention with purpose, on and off the mat.
